| A PEARL OF GREAT PRICE Laurence Freeman, OSB |

| Again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it. (Matthew 13:45) |
The attitude of Christians to other faiths is, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, undergoing a historical shift today. Christians no longer arrogantly reject other faiths but are able to revere what is good and holy in them. Dialogue with these faiths impels us to seek new ways of expressing Christian experience alongside traditional theology. The contemplative experience is essential if inter- religious dialogue is to mature. The Christian Meditation group is instinctively ecumenical in this broader sense. Each of its meetings is open to any genuine seeker and it will respond hospitably and gently to others. Although it is not an interfaith group as such it will welcome people of other faiths, or those seeking for faith if they are content to meditate with Christians – whose own faith in Christ as their teacher inspires them to imitate his truth and openness. If the group concurs it can be a rewarding practice to make contact with other religious groups locally and sometimes to have an interfaith meditation evening together. |
