| A PEARL OF GREAT PRICE Laurence Freeman, OSB |

| Again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it. (Matthew 13:45) |
Starting a new Christian Meditation group is a step of a faith, but it will be an enriching responsibility. Whatever you give you will receive back manifold. Always remember that you are not expected to be an expert or a model meditator. Just a humbly committed one. The teacher is within. His name is ‘above all names’. A group becomes a channel of his presence not only to its own members but to all those whose lives they interact with during the week. Like everything else in the life of the gospel, the meditation group does not exist for itself alone. If you can see this you will not be nervous about sharing the gift and you will not be concerned about numbers. You will know that this little community of contemplative faith – in communion with many others around the world – is nurturing the spiritual journey of its members. But also in a world that is becoming too noisy to listen, it is acting as a window of silence to the divine mystery in our midst. |
